Firefighter/EMT
Posted: 04/11/2025 - 09:15 AM Due By: 04/25/2025 - 04:30 PMThe East Hanover Fire Department (EHFD) is seeking motivated, dedicated, and community-oriented individuals to join our team as a Paid Firefighter/EMT. This position offers an exciting, challenging and demanding career in fire suppression, emergency medical services (EMS), and public safety. Our Firefighters/EMTs are integral members of our department and serve the community with the highest levels of professionalism and care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Respond to emergency calls, including fire suppression, medical emergencies, vehicle accidents, hazardous materials incidents, and other emergency situations.
- Perform firefighting duties, including interior and exterior fire attack, search and rescue.
- Provide Basic Life Support (BLS) and emergency medical care to injured or ill patients as an EMT.
- Participate in training drills, in-service instruction, and ongoing education to maintain current certifications and skills.
- Operate and maintain firefighting apparatus, equipment, and tools in a state of readiness.
- Conduct fire prevention activities, including public education programs, fire & safety inspections, and community outreach.
- Assist in station and vehicle maintenance, including housekeeping and light repairs.
Minimum Qualifications Required at the Time of Appointment for Firefighter/EMT:
- Firefighter 1 Certification issued by the New Jersey Division of Fire Safety
- Valid Emergency Medical Technician certification issued by NJOEMS
- Valid CPR- BLS Certification.
- Firefighter/EMTs who do not possess a NJ DFS Fire Inspector certification/license must obtain it within 18 months of their appointment to maintain employment.
- The applicant must possess a valid State of New Jersey Driver's License.
- The applicant must possess a High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- The applicant shall submit to a criminal background investigation; and is of good moral character.
- Ability to meet the physical, emotional and mental demands of the job, including passing a medical examination and fitness test.
- Ability to read, write and speak the English language intelligently.
- Strong communication skills and commitment to teamwork, safety, and community service.
- The applicant must be a citizen of the United States and a resident of the State of New Jersey.
- The applicant must be eligible for acceptance in the Police and Firemen's Retirement System (PFRS) or Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) of the State of New Jersey.
Preferred Qualifications:
- NJ DFS Fire Inspector certification/license
- NJ DFS Hazardous Materials Awareness/Operations
- NJ DFS Incident Management Level 1 Certification
- Prior experience in firefighting, EMS, or a related field.
- Knowledge of firefighting tactics, EMS protocols, and safety practices.
- Ability to operate fire apparatus, provide emergency medical care, perform vehicle extrications.
Work Environment:
- The Firefighter/EMT will work in diverse conditions, including but not limited to; responding to fires, medical emergencies, and hazardous materials situations in all weather conditions. Shift schedules may vary and include nights, weekends, and holidays.

- Current starting salary $50,000.

Prospective applicants must, along with their certifications, also provide a money order made out to Township of East Hanover, in the amount of $75.00. Application fees shall be waived for current active volunteers currently serving within the Township of East Hanover. Applications and required documents must be submitted and received no later than 4:30pm, April 25, 2025. NO EMAILS WILL BE ACCEPTED.
