Proclamation for Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month
Posted September 09, 2022WHEREAS, ovarian cancer has the highest mortality rate of all cancers of the female reproductive system and is the fifth leading cause of cancer related deaths among women in the United States; and
WHEREAS, if found and treated before it has spread outside the ovary, the five-year relative survival rate for women diagnosed with ovarian cancer is more than 90 percent: however, due in part to a lack of early symptoms and effective screening, tests, only 15 percent of all ovarian cancers are found at this early stage; and
WHEREAS, while an exact cause is still unknown, certain risk factors for ovarian cancer have been identified including a family history of ovarian cancer, the presence· of certain genetic mutations, and having a certain hereditary condition; and
WHEREAS, this month, the Township of East Hanover joins all those who are battling ovarian cancer, those who lost their lives to the disease, their loved ones, and all the many dedicated healthcare workers in spreading awareness, committing to public education, and embracing a hope for a better diagnosis, treatment, and a cure.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Joseph Pannullo, Mayor of the Township of East Hanover, do hereby proclaim September 2022 as
OVARIAN CANCER AWARENESS MONTH
in the Township of East Hanover, and encourage our citizens, businesses, educators, and volunteers to support activities and programs that will increase ovarian cancer awareness and promote continued research into the causes and a cure for this disease.
