The mission of the East Hanover Health Department is to improve the health and quality of life of the citizens of East Hanover Township and Roseland Borough through the use of health promotion strategies, health protection strategies, preventive services and community health surveillance.

Animal Control
The East Hanover Health Department oversees the licensing of pets, animal adoptions, rabies clinics, bite quarantines and road kill pick-ups.
LICENSING
Under Board of Health Ordinance, all mature (defined as 7 month old) dogs and cats must be counted and licensed by the Township. Dog & Cat licenses have to be renewed by January 31st of each year. All animals are required to show proof of current rabies vaccination. Proof of neutering/spaying is required in order to obtain exemption from extra fees. Basic dog license fee is $12.00; cat fee is $10.00. Add another $3.00 OR $5.00 if your dog or cat has not been neutered or spayed. Late fees are assessed ($10.00 per animal) for applications filed after the designated due dates.
ANIMAL WELFARE
East Hanover Township animal control services are provided by Animal Control Solutions LLC. TO REPORT A LOST OR STRAY DOG OR CAT CALL 908-722-1271. After hours report emergencies to the East Hanover Police Department at 973-887-0432.
RABIES
Rabies is a major health threat. If you see an animal you think may have this disease, please call the Health Department Office at 973-888-6035. Raccoons, skunks and other nocturnal animals that are out during daylight hours should be suspect. Any wild animal that is unusually aggressive or friendly and animals that appear sick should also be reported.
To protect your pet and your family all dogs and cats should be vaccinated for rabies on a regular basis.

BLOOD PRESSURE SCREENING
Free blood pressure checks at the health department are available upon request by appointment only (not intended to replace seeking medical care from primary physician).
INFLUENZA VACCINE CLINIC
Flu vaccination clinics are conducted annually during the fall months. The Health Department offers both high-dose and regular dose flu vaccines. Advanced registration is required. Residents aged 65 and older with Medicare Part B can receive their flu vaccine free of charge; residents between the ages of 18 and 64 are charged a fee of $20.00. Please make checks payable to: Township of East Hanover Health Department.

PODIATRY CLINIC
Monthly podiatry clinic available for residents aged 65 and older, one Friday a month. Provides basic foot care and examination. Contact the Health Department at 973-888-6035 to make an appointment and for additional information.
WELL-CHILD INFORMATION
CHILDHOOD IMMUNIZATION PROGRAM
Low or no cost programs are available to families without insurance. Please contact Christine DiBrienza, RN, BSN, MS, Nursing Supervisor at 973-888-6035 for more information and referrals.
AFFORDABLE HEALTH INSURANCE FOR UNINSURED FAMILIES
The NJ Family Care program can provide affordable health insurance to uninsured families (a family of four (4) can make a maximum yeariy income of $59,675 and still qualify). A comprehensive package of services is provided including vaccinations, preventive care, hospitalization, prescription drugs, dental, vision and hearing. CANCER SCREENINGS
MALE CANCER SCREENING
Offered for residents free of charge during the spring provided by our Medical Director Dr. Marzella. Contact the Health Department Office at 973-888-6035 for registration and additional information.
SKIN CANCER SCREENING
Offered for residents aged 18 and older free of charge at the beginning of the summer. Contact the Health Department Office at 973-888-6035 for registration and additional information.
SENIOR WELLNESS PROGRAMS
Several exercise and wellness programs are available for senior residents throughout the year. The emphasis of these programs is preserving healthy behaviors through health education and informational sessions; weekly sessions provide a consistent learning environment combined with a gradual progression of activities. Contact the Health Department at 973-888-6035 to make an appointment and for additional information.
SMAC BLOOD SCREENING
SMAC is a comprehensive blood test that analyzes more than 20 components including total cholesterol, LDL, HDL, triglycerides, glucose, a CBC (complete blood count.), and BMP (basic metabolic panel). Residents will be charged a fee for this service. A PSA (prostate specific antigen test) is available to male residents for an additional charge. The Health Department's nursing staff will provide blood pressure screening and health education brochures. SMAC is available to all residents aged 18 and older; the clinic is held annually in March and September. Appointment is required. All participants must have a primary care provider documented to obtain test results. Contact the Health Department at 973-888-6035 for registration and additional information.
Dial A Ride

Our Dial-A-Ride service is available to East Hanover residents who are a minimum of 60 years of age. We offer wheelchair-accessible vehicles.
All medical appointments must be made in advance. Medical appointments, salon appointments, and grocery shopping should be made no earlier than 7:30 am and no later than 1:30 pm Monday through Friday. It is best to call and schedule a ride as soon as you have your appointments, it's never too early!

Environmental Health
FOOD SAFETY
The Health Department's environmental staff conduct inspections of all food establishments within the Township of East Hanover and the Borough of Roseland. These food establishments include anyone who serves food to the public, from a large grocery store to a small vending machine. Our health inspectors work closely with retail food providers to ensure that that their facilities, services and employees comply with State standards. While most of our communities food establishments are clean and safe, problems can occur. If you ever have a concern about food safety or sanitation in a local food establishment, please let us know! Mosquitoes
Set between the Passaic & Whippany Rivers, East Hanover's many wetland areas provide an ideal habitat for mosquitoes. From late Spring to early Fall, mosquitoes can be a significant nuisance particularly in residential areas adjacent to wetlands.
The Morris County Mosquito Commission is the lead agency for mosquito control in Morris County. The Commission employs a modern, integrated approach to mosquito control that includes monitoring, sampling, larval control, habitat reduction and adult mosquito control. The Morris County Mosquito Commission conducts inspections and control on both public and private property.
