Jr. Public Safety Academy
On behalf of Mayor Joseph Pannullo, the East Hanover Office of Emergency Management and Citizens Emergency Response Team (CERT) and co-sponsored by the East Hanover Township Schools.
We presented a 3-day program to students of East Hanover Middle School. The EHOEM Jr. Public Safety Academy was interactive, fun and informative program.
This was a great opportunity for children to explore the fields of Public Service and Safety, and how they can get involved to become active members of their community. A group of Hanover Park students were selected in assisting and mentoring at the Academy. The 3rd day we concluded with an Awards and Pool Party at Township pool. In the fall 2014 the EHOEM/CERT will be implementing a feeder program for the Hanover Park High School students. We hope that this program will serve as a foundation for students that are interested in disciplines of Law, Fire, EMS, Nursing, Investigation, Forensics, Security and Emergency Management.
This is our 1st year of Jr. Public Safety Academy, and we are hopeful that we have many more years of continued success with this program.
MAYOR PANNULLO INVITES LOCAL PROGRAMS TO APPLY FOR MAYORS COMMITTEE ON LIFE SCIENCES STEM CERTFICIATE AWARD
The Mayors Committee on Life Sciences recently announced the creation of the Mayors Committee on Life Sciences STEM Certificate Award. The award will honor educators and students who are spearheading this important academic pursuit throughout the state. The program was developed in response to a recent Battelle/PhRMA study that highlighted the importance of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math).
Mayor Pannullo would like to identify local schools, academic or extra-curricular programs, teachers and/or students that are eligible for the STEM Certificate Award so they can be recognized along with other programs in the state. The award will be given to programs that meet the following criteria K-12:
• Offering a STEM-centered program of study in academic curriculum;
• Supporting scholarships for teachers and students to pursue further education in STEM related fields;
• Sponsoring or hosting science fairs or technology competitions;
• Hosting summer academic camps with STEM specific curriculum
Mayor Pannullo encourages local teachers and students to apply for this certification as it is important for everyone who is involved in this critical educational discipline to be recognized for their efforts.
